If you’re seeking a more elevated, boutique experience, the sophisticated Sofitel Chicago is a top choice. This sleek stunner’s location just east of Michigan Ave can’t be beat. After a day of shopping and sightseeing, unwinding at their French restaurant or chic bar makes for the perfect ending.

Whenever I have friends or family visiting for an extended trip, the roomy accommodations at the Embassy Suites are my top pick. The residential-style suites with kitchenettes provide a comfortable home base, while perks like free breakfast and evening receptions make longer stays even more convenient. Its tucked-away location two blocks off Michigan Ave also offers a little oasis, and there is a Target nearby in case you’re in need of some travel essentials.

When I need to suggest a budget-friendly option for families or groups, the Homewood Suites is my go-to. It may be just off Michigan Ave, but the all-suite setup with kitchens and living areas provides way more space and flexibility. You’re also just a stone’s throw from major draws like the Hancock and Water Tower Place, home of The Lego Store and American Girl.

With their sweeping city views and residential layout, the Hilton’s upscale suites have been a personal favorite for larger groups or extended stays with my own visiting friends and relatives. I always found this Hilton Suites very convienent when traveling with small children.

You can’t go wrong with a classic DoubleTree stay, especially with this location’s unbeatable access to the Mag Mile scene. The well-appointed rooms and modern amenities provide a comfortable home base. And let’s be honest, getting that signature warm cookie at check-in kicks off any Chicago visit on the right foot.
EXPERT TIP: If you are staying in the summer, head east on Wednesday and Saturday nights to witness the fireworks shows put on at Navy Pier every week.

The Talbott is one of my favorite hidden gems just off the Magnificent Mile. It has that perfect mix of boutique charm and upscale comfort—plus, it’s in a prime spot near Oak Street’s designer boutiques and some of the best restaurants in the city. The rooms are stylish yet cozy, and the on-site restaurant, 20 East, is a great place to grab brunch before heading out to explore. If you love a hotel with personality, this one is a must.
Claridge House

For a more relaxed, neighborhood feel while still being close to the action, Claridge House is a fantastic pick. Located on Dearborn Street, in the heart of the Gold Coast, it’s a short walk to Michigan Avenue but offers a quieter, more residential vibe.
