Burger Bar Chicago

📍 1150 S Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL 60605
My husband found this one. We both love a good burger and were looking for a cozy, laid-back restaurant to celebrate our anniversary when he stumbled across the raves reviews for this spot at on South Michigan Avenue near Roosevelt. The reviews are right; the burgers and fries here are excellent.  Burger Bar Chicago also has a well-curated craft beer, selection. Oh, and they have a photo booth inside where you can commemorate your visit!
Why You’ll Love It:

  • Creative burgers like the “Gobble Gobble Stacker” and a house “1837 Red Ale”
  • Laid-back craft beer bar vibe that’s great for groups

Half Sour in Chicago’s Loop

Half Sour

📍 755 S Clark St, Chicago, IL 60605
My daughter was the one who introduced me to this cozy, friendly corner spot at Clark and Polk. She raved about the artichoke dip—and she was right. Sadly no longer on the menu (here’s my desperate plea to Half-Sour ownership to bring it back). But don’t worry—everything else is equally delicious, and I’m officially hooked.
Why You’ll Love It:

  • Cozy, artsy bar with a down-to-earth South Loop vibe
  • Secret, free underground comedy show every Thursday in a hidden speakeasy room
  • House-made half-sour pickles that are crunchy, tangy, and totally Chicago
  • Elevated bar food + rotating local craft beers

Expert Tip: Come in summer or fall and grab a seat on the charming sidewalk patio.

Eleven City Diner

📍 1112 S Wabash Ave, Chicago, IL 60605
If you’re a fan of soft, fresh-baked challah, get to Eleven City Diner ASAP. It might be the best in the city. Their mile-high sandwiches are the real deal—like the Salami Valor with homemade salami, pastrami, Swiss, and honey Dijon. The massive menu spans soups, bagels, bowls, malts, and more.
Why You’ll Love It:

  • Retro candy counter, house-made sodas, and all-day breakfast
  • Classic East Coast–style diner with oversized portions

Wildberry Pancakes & Café

📍 130 E Randolph St, Chicago, IL 60601
I recently taped a Michigan travel segment in the Fox32 Chicago studios and the first place I headed when I was done filming is Wildberry. It’s known as one of Chicago’s top breakfast spots, and while tourists love it, locals do too! The large dining room and outdoor dining patio (weather permitting) means that they can more than handle the throngs of hungry diners, and they do it well. It’s not just the food at Wildberry that keeps me coming back (although they make a fabulous roast beef hash), it’s the comfortable setting, too.
|Why You’ll Love It:

  • Creative pancakes, crepes, and brunch classics (with GF & vegetarian options)
  • Online waitlist makes busy mornings easy
  • Great location near Millennium Park
  • Spacious dining room + outdoor patio
